SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - March 9, 2026
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects its spring Athletes of the Week honoring eight student-athletes from six different member institutions.
Baseball Athlete of the Week - Tristan Gatchalian, Cortland
Gatchalian batted .438 (7-of-16) with a homer, triple, two doubles, five walks, three hit by pitches, five RBI and seven runs scored in five games. He finished the week with a .625 on-base percentage. In a 15-3 win over NYU on Sunday, Gatchalian hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2 and added an RBI double later in the inning as Cortland scored eight times. He also went 2-for-3 in a win over Keuka and 2-for-5 in a one-run loss at nationally fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Kyan Zamaniyan, Plattsburgh
Junior Zamaniyan delivered a dominant performance on the mound for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals baseball in the Cardinals' final game of the week. Zamaniyan got the start with Plattsburgh looking to extend its unbeaten streak to five games, and he delivered in commanding fashion. The junior tossed five shutout innings, allowing just two hits while issuing no walks and striking out four to earn the victory. Zamaniyan's strong outing set the tone on the mound and played a key role in finishing off the Cardinals' undefeated week.
Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Rowisonkies Barnes, Potsdam
Barnes had 14 points in two wins for the Bears. He recorded a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists in a win over Alfred State on Wednesday. Barnes added two goals and two assists in a 9-4 victory over Brockport on Saturday.
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Damyn LeClair, Potsdam
LeClair continued to be a defensive force for the Bears. In two games he caused 12 turnovers and collected 14 ground balls. Against Alfred State, the freshman caused eight turnovers and picked up 12 ground balls. He caused four more turnovers and had two ground balls in Potsdam's win against Brockport on Saturday.
Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Anyssia Ingersoll, Morrisville
Ingersoll led Morrisville to a season opening win over Alfred University Saturday, posting a team high 10 points behind nine goals and an assist in the 16-13 victory. Seven of her tallies came in the second half of action, including the eventual game winner that she put in the back of the net midway through the fourth quarter. Ingersoll also collected 10 ground balls to go along with seven caused turnovers, while registering 13 draw control wins at the center circle.
Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jessica Kowalski, Fredonia
Kowalski helped lead Fredonia State to a 2-0 week and a 4-0 overall record. She recorded 19 saves in two victories and produced a .63 save percentage. She had 14 saves in a 9-7 game against Westminster on Wednesday. In a 7-4 win over Nazareth on Saturday, she held the Flyers scoreless in the first and fourth quarters as the Devils mounted a comeback win.
Softball Athlete of the Week - Ella Sharrock, New Paltz
Sharrock was the catalyst in a huge opening day for the Hawks in Virginia Saturday. In an upset victory over No. 7 nationally ranked Randolph-Macon, Sharrock led off the game with game-opening solo home run to give her team the lead. She finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an extra base hit and an RBI. In a Game 2 six-inning rout of Marymount, Sharrock picked up where she left off, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, a home run and four RBI. She again led off with a first-inning solo shot before rocking a two-run double in her second at-bat before producing another RBI double in the fourth to push the lead to 8-1. She was one of five players to register a hit Sunday in a re-match against Randolph Macon, and the only Hawk to tally two hits against the nationally ranked Yellow Jackets. Sharrock finished the game going 2-for-3 and against Meredith, was one of four players to earn a hit in a tough loss. She finished the game going 1-for-2, scoring the team's lone run. Overall, Sharrock opened up her junior senior, going 8-for-16 with six runs, two doubles, two home runs with five RBI, striking out just once, hitting .615 with an on-base-percentage of .643 and slugging percentage of 1.231. She totaled 16 bases and four extra base hits.
Softball Pitcher of the Week - Olivia DiSalvo, Cortland
DiSalvo appeared in three games out of the bullpen at the NFCA Leadoff Classic and allowed just one run on nine hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in eight innings pitched (0.88 ERA). She fanned six batters in four and two thirds innings versus LaGrange and gave up two hits in two and a third scoreless innings versus nationally 14th-ranked Huntingdon.
