SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - November 17, 2025
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects its winter Athletes of the Week recognizing 13 student-athletes from seven member institutions for their notable performances during the week of November 10-16.
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Deacon Judd, Oswego
The Reigning SUNYAC Player and Rookie of the year has picked up right where he left off anchoring the Oswego offense in both thier games this week. Against St Lawrnece he scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds with 4 assists. Then against Nazareth Judd scored 24 points and added 14 rebounds for a double double that also included 3 assists and a block. For the two games he shot 71.4 percent from the floor.
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Brianna Fitzgerald, New Paltz
Fitzgerald scored a career-high 35 points in a 72-65 win over Ithaca Saturday and was just a point shy of tying the program's single game point record in the outing. She shot an efficient 11-for-18 against the Bombers and led the team in rebounds (8) with an assist, a block and three steals. She started the week with a quick double-double performance in a 70-55 win over Vassar in 24 minutes, posting a team-high 17 points and team-high 15 rebounds, which also matched her career-high on the glass. She shot efficiently once again, going 7-for-11 from the field while adding an assist, a steal and a block. Through two games this week, Fitzgerald shot 62 percent and averaged 26 points, 11.5 rebounds and two steals.
Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Kahlil Fontana, Hobart
Fontana led Hobart with five poitns on five goals. In Friday's 6-1 victory over Skidmore, Fontana matched a Hobart single-game record with four goals against the Thoroughbreds. It was his third career hat trick. He opened the scoring against the Thoroughbreds in the first period and then recorded a natural hat trick, helping extend Hobart's lead. On Saturday against Plattsburgh, Fontana scored an insurance goal in the third period.
Men's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Damon Beaver, Hobart
Beaver posted his first shutout of the season on Saturay, blanking Plattsburgh 3-0 in his SUNYAC debut. The Whitby, Ontario native, stopped all 22 shots as he improved to 3-0-0 on the seaosn. It was Beaver's 20th career shutout.
Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Chad Lowe, Morrisville
Lowe recorded a .980 save percentage in two SUNYAC ties across the weekend. In Friday's 1-1 overtime draw with Fredonia, Lowe posted a collegiate high 51 stops for a .981 save percentage in 65 minutes of action. He followed with 47 saves in the overtime tie with Buffalo State on Saturday for a .979 effort in 64 minutes played, making all three stops in the exhibition shootout. Across the weekend, the freshman posted a 0.93 goals against average and 98 total saves.
Women's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Jenna Majewski, Oswego
Majewski has ben integral to the Lakers this season so far and she continued that effort this weekend. First she scored the game tying goal agsint Cortaldn on Friday and then she added two additional goals against Morrisville on Saturday. This brings her season total to four goals so far.
Women's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Chloe Lewis, Plattsburgh
Lewis helped guide Plattsburgh State to a perfect 2-0 start in SUNYAC play, turning in a dominant weekend between the pipes. Lewis opened the conference slate with a 13-save shutout against William Smith, calmly steering aside every opportunity she faced. She followed that performance with another flawless outing the next day, registering a 12-save shutout in the Cardinals' win over Buffalo State. Across the two-game weekend, Lewis did not allow a single goal and delivered several key saves in timely moments to preserve momentum and secure both victories. Her poised, reliable play was instrumental in Plattsburgh State's undefeated start.
Women's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Georgia Cunliffe, Oswego
Cunliffe scored two goals this weekend against Cortland and Morrisvile. Her goal against Cortland was the game deciding goal that was unassisted at the 13 minute makr of the 3rd which helped the Lakers secure the conference win. As a freshman, she leads the Lakers in goals (4) as well as points (5)
Men's Swimmer of the Week - Ethan Calhoun, Oswego
Ethan delivered an exceptional performance across multiple events, securing first place in the 100 yard backstroke (57.23), 200 yard backstroke (2:06.56), and the grueling 400 yard IM (4:36.73).
Women's Swimmer of the Week - Drew Porter, Penn State Altoona
Porter had three individual first-place finishes in Saturday's dual meet at Division II opponent Lock Haven. Her first victory of the day came in the 200 yard IM, when she recorded a time of 2:26.35 to finish atop the standings. Five events later, she won the 200 yard backstroke in 2:22.34, then secured the trifecta three swims after that, when she nabbed first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:06.37. Additionally, Drew was part of a second-place team finish in the 200 yard medley relay, in which her squad combine for a time of 2:02.14.
Women's Diver of the Week - Macayla Hodkinson, Oneonta
Senior Hodkinson won the one-meter dive (11 dives) with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 233.45. It is her second qualifying mark of the season.
Men's Wrestler of the Week - Carson LiCastri, Oneonta
LiCastri, the fourth nationally ranked 197-pounder by the NWCA, went 4-0 with two first round pins and a major, and defeated NWCA's No. 3 nationally ranked 197-pounder en route to winning the 197 title at the Wilkes Invitational. His run started with a 1:23 fall and a 41-second fall, then, in the semifinals, LiCastri recorded two takedowns in the first period, a four-point nearfall in the second, and another takedown in the third for a 17-7 major. In the championship match, LiCastri had a rematch against one of his opponents from last year's NCAA Championships, Will Davis (Elizabethtown), who is nationally ranked third by NWCA at 197 lbs. With the match tied at one, LiCastri recorded a takedown with 55 seconds left to go up 4-1. Davis was able to escape with 42 seconds remaining, but he could not get a takedown and LiCastri won the 4-2 decision.
Men's Wrestling Rookie of the Week - Kingston Strouse, Oneonta
Strouse finished the week 5-1 with a tech fall and a major for a fifth place finish at 157 lbs. in the Wilkes Invitational. He started the tournament with a 16-1 tech in 5:57, then he totaled three takedowns and a four-point nearfall for a 14-7 decision. Strouse recorded a pair of escapes, takedowns, and four-point nearfalls in the second and third periods for a 16-4 major over Kehinde Mogaji (Arcadia). In the consolation semifinals, he was down 6-1 to Andre Allen (McDaniel) after the first period before he turned it around with an escape, a takedown and a four-point nearfall for an eventual 10-9 decision. Strouse received fifth place via medical forfeit over TCNJs Josh Lee. The Oneonta freshman is currently 10-2 this season and has placed in all three tournaments he's competed in.
