Apicella and Roper Take SUNYAC Baseball Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - New Paltz's Fabian Apicella is this week's SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week, while Oneonta's Kyle Roper is this week's Pitcher of the Week.
Apicella led the Hawks this past week, hitting .571 including going a perfect 3-for-3 in a win against Centenary in game two of their doubleheader Friday. To start the week, Apicella was just one of five Hawks to earn a hit off a tough arm in a 4-1 loss to No. 18 Kean Tuesday. He added a base hit and a stolen base in the outing, while playing clean at third base with two total catches, two assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Against the Cyclones, Apicella added a career and a game-high five runs scored, while adding four RBI, tying a career-high with a double, two walks and a stolen base.
Senior Kyle Roper pitched 6.0 innings in the 8-3 win for the Oneonta Red Dragons over Union on Tuesday. He struck out seven batters to surpass 100-career strikeouts. He only allowed three hits with no runs to record a 0.00 ERA and .50 WHIP.
