McGowan and Misla Earn SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Oswego's Trey McGowan is this week's SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week, while Cortland's Luis Misla takes home another Pitcher of the Week award.
McGowan, a junior infielder from Bluepoint, NY, continues to be scorching hot from the plate helping the Lakers earn three wins last week. First at RIT, he went 4-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 stolen bases. Then in two games against Oneonta, he went 3 for 6 with 2 RBI and 5 walks. He leads the SUNYAC in batting average with .451 and hit an amazing .700 in 10 at bats last week.
Misla set a Cortland school record with 19 strikeouts in the Red Dragons' 5-1 win at Plattsburgh on Friday. He broke the previous school mark of 17 strikeouts and has now struck out 10 or more batters six times this season. Misla took a no-hitter two outs into the ninth inning before allowing three singles. He escaped the jam to earn his eighth win of the season. The only run he allowed was unearned without a hit in the fifth inning.
