HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers struck first in the top of the first when a single from Daniel Winchester sent home Trey McGowan for a 1-0 lead. The Tornados were ready in the bottom of the first to take a lead of their own off the Lakers starter Joel Hayner. Concordia scored 5 runs on 4 hits, and an error for a 5-1 lead.
In the top of the second Matt Carner smashed a home run over the left field fence to cut into the lead for Oswego, 5-2. The Tornados scored another run in the bottom of the 4th on a ground out to make their lead 6-2 after 4 full innings.
Oswego had no plans to go quietly, and Joe McLaughlin got things started being hit by a pitch in the top of the 5th. Barone singled next and Pat May laid down a perfect bunt to set up two runners in scoring position. Trey McGowan singled next, scoring McLaughlin followed by a single from Emil Sander cutting the lead down to 6-4.
In the top of the 6th, the Lakers continued to dig into the lead, scoring Dylan Rosenberg from third on a SAC fly from Matt Carner. The Lakers finally tied the game up in the top of the 7th when Pat May doubled off the wall in left field and advanced to third on a single from McGowan. Emil Sander then singled to the pitcher, scoring May and tying the game up at 6.
After a 5 run first inning, Joel Hayner settled in pitching the next 7 innings allowing just 1 run, 1 hit and striking out 8.
The two teams entered the 9th inning tied at 6. After the Lakers could not push across a run in the top of the inning, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Concordia hit a walk off home run defeating the Lakers in dramatic fashion.
