SUNYAC releases ice hockey and basketball weekly honors
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) releases its first 2016-17 men's and women's basketball weekly awards and continues with week four of ice hockey honors.
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Lovell Smith, Buffalo State
(Sr, G - Buffalo, N.Y.)
Smith averaged 22.7 points and 11.7 rebounds as he registered three-straight double-doubles pacing the Bengals to a 3-0 start. He scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds in a win over Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday. He added 15 points and 11 boards in a win over Maine-Fort Kent on Friday, and then matched his career high with 35 points to accompany 12 rebounds in a win over Villa Maria on Saturday. Smith also had six blocked shot in the three games and was named MVP of the Buffalo State Coles Classic.
Women's Basektball Athlete of the Week - Princella McCullough, Buffalo State

The sophomore transfer recorded three-straight double-doubles to open her Bengals' career, averaging 17.0 points and 17.3 rebounds. She had 12 points and 17 rebounds in a season-opening win at Medaille on Tuesday. McCullough added 20 points and 19 rebounds in a win over Cazenovia on Saturday, and then scored 19 points to go with 16 boards in a two-point loss to Nazareth on Saturday. She added 12 blocks in the three games and was named to the Betty Abgott Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Samuel Wilbur, Fredonia
(Jr, F - Saginaw, Mich.)
Wilbur had six points and a plus-three rating during Fredonia's home-and-home series with Morrisville. He had a career-best four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in Fredonia's 6-2 win Nov. 19 and extended his scoring streak to a career-best five games. Wilbur leads the Blue Devils with 11 points after seven games.
Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week - Matt Zawadzki, Oswego
(Sr, G - Fort Mill, S.C.)
Zawadzki was crucial in helping Oswego improve to 6-0-0 and 4-0-0 on Friday in a 6-0 win over Potsdam. The senior goalie stopped all 27 shots-on-goal to record the shutout and lower his goals-against-average to 1.34 and raise his save percentage to .941 on the season. Zawadzki also recorded his 12th-career shutout between the pipes, setting the new individual career mark for shutouts at Oswego. The Fort Mill, S.C. native surpassed Andrew Hare's 11 that the goalie accumulated from 2010-2013.
Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Conlan Keenan, Geneseo
(Fy, F - Penfield, N.Y.)
Keenan scored two goals and added an assist to lead the No. 9 Knights to a 6-2 victory over Brockport, Saturday, in the squad's lone game of the week. He scored the only goal of the first period and then tied the game less than six minutes into the second period after the Golden Eagles had tied the score less than two minutes earlier. Keena then tacked on an assist in the third period as the Knights out-scored Brockport, 4-0, to earn the SUNYAC win.
