Yacavone Voted SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is pleased to announce Cortland's Dante Yacavone as the 2022 Men's Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year as nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.
Yacavone is a geographic information systems major with 3.50 cumulative GPA. In 2022 he was Honorable Mention All-America attack for the second straight year. This season he was also First Team All-SUNYAC for the second year in a row after leading Cortland with 28 goals and 23 assists for 51 points. The Red Dragons won their fourth-straight and 28th overall SUNYAC title and tied for 17th place nationally after losing in the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse second round.
During each season, the conference honors student-athletes for their efforts in their sport, as well as their academics. Out of hundreds of spring athletes, one athlete from each sport was selected for this distinction. In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
