Byers and Woodard chosen as PrestoSports Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has chosen Cortland's Lizzy Byers and Geneseo's Mattie Woodard as PrestoSports Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week.
Byers batted .571 (12-for-21) with six homers, three doubles, two walks, 16 RBI and eight runs in a 5-1 week for the Red Dragons. She finished the week with a 1.571 slugging percentage and .609 on-base percentage. Byers hit three homers in a doubleheader sweep at Oswego Saturday - two in the first game, including a grand slam, in a 13-1 win, and a three-run homer in a 9-4 victory. She homered in each game of a doubleheader sweep at Buffalo State on Monday and hit a homer in a 9-8 win at St. John Fisher Tuesday. Byers has homered at least once in seven of her last eight games and leads the Red Dragons with nine round-trippers this season.
Woodard silenced the Brockport bats on Tuesday to help the Knights complete a sweep of the Golden Eagles. Woodard tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and one walk with six strikeouts to lead the Knights to a 9-0 victory over host Brockport. Woodard owns a 3-1 pitching record and a 0.84 ERA this season over 25 innings pitched. She has not allowed an earned run since March 17.
