GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team will travel to Scranton to face Connecticut College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament this Saturday, Nov. 13 as the 64-team field was announced Monday afternoon.
The Knights (15-2-1) defeated Cortland, 1-0, last Saturday to clinch their ninth overall State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship (SUNYAC) Championship and an automatic bid to the ninth NCAA Tournament in program history.
Geneseo is making its fourth-consecutive NCAA appearance after receiving an at-large bid in 2019 and falling to Mary Washington, 3-0, in Geneva, N.Y. The Knights also suffered a first-round defeat in 2018, but advanced to the third round in 2017. Chosen as a host institution for the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament, Geneseo picked up overtime victories against Penn State-Berks, 2-1, and Misericordia, 1-0, to advance to the Round of 16.
Geneseo has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1992, 1993, 1994, 2009, 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2019. The Knights hold a 3-7-4 record in NCAA Tournament play and have advanced on penalty kicks in three out of the four draws. The squad has reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament three times in program history, and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals in 1994.
Connecticut College finished the season with a 9-4-3 mark, including a 5-3-2 record in Northeast Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. The Camels bowed out to eventual NESCAC Champions Middlebury in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
Host institution University of Scranton will face Nazareth in the first round on the opposite side of the bracket, with the winner of that game facing the winner of the Knights and Camels.
