Cortland and Plattsburgh Tied at No. 1 in 2024-25 SUNYAC Women's Ice Hockey Preseason Poll
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Cortland and Plattsburgh are tied for the No. 1 spot in the 2024-25 SUNYAC women's ice hockey preseason poll as voted on by the conference coaches. Oswego is No. 3 in this year's poll.
In 2024, Cortland won the first-ever SUNYAC women's ice hockey championship with a 2-1 overtime win against Plattsburgh. The Red Dragons ended their season in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 3-1 loss to Elmira. The team had a 20-6-2 overall record.
Plattsburgh was the No. 1 seed going into SUNYAC post season play in 2024. The team advanced to the championship game, but lost in overtime to No. 2 Cortland. Plattsburgh, who was ranked fourth in the USCHO.com Division III poll, earned an at-large berth into the 2024 NCAA tournament. The Cardinals ended their season in the NCAA quarterfinals with a 2-0 loss to Middlebury. Plattsburgh finished the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 22-5-1.
Oswego was No. 3 in the league after 2023-24 regular season play. The Lakers ended their season in the SUNYAC semifinals with a 2-1 loss to Cortland. Last season Oswego had an overall record of 14-11-1.

Buffalo State, Cortland, Oswego, Plattsburgh and Potsdam competed in the Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) starting in 2017- and Morrisville and Canton joined in 2019. In 2023-24 the seven teams competed for the first time under the SUNYAC.
