Andzel, Goergen and Oloriz Earn SUNYAC Women's Ice Hockey Weekly Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC picks Canton's Riley Andzel, Cortland's Molly Goergen and Canton's Taryn Oloriz as its Women's Ice Hockey Athlete, Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Andzel posted four points on a goal and three assists with a pair of blocks over three games last week as all four of her points came in a conference weekend sweep against Buffalo State. She had a hand in both goals in a 2-1 win against the Bengals on Friday. The sophomore had the primary assist on the game-tying goal in the second period and scored the game-winner on the power play with 6 minutes, 10 seconds left. Andzel closed out the weekend with two assists on Canton?s three goals including the primary assist on the eventual game-winner of a 3-2 win against Buffalo State on Saturday.
Goergen posted a .930 save percentage, a 1.95 GAA, and one shutout over three games last week to lead the nationally 11th-ranked Red Dragons to a 2-0-1 record. The senior made a season-high 34 saves for her third shutout of the season as Cortland earned a 3-0 win over nationally seventh-ranked Elmira on Tuesday evening. She also had a 30-save performance for Cortland in a 3-1 victory over previously unbeaten Arcadia on Saturday afternoon. Gergen made 16 saves on Sunday, including a clutch save in overtime to preserve a tie for the Red Dragons. She also stopped two of three shootout attempts, as Cortland was victorious in the exhibition shootout.
Oloriz scored the eventual game-winner on the power play in a 3-2 win against Buffalo State on Saturday. The goal was her first career tally. She also went 19-for-35 in the faceoff dot on the week including 15-for-23 against the Bengals.
