No. 8 Geneseo Women's Lacrosse Hosts Stevenson (MD) in NCAA Tournament Second Round, Saturday
GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team will host Stevenson (Md.) on Saturday, May 10, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, as the field for the 32-team tournament was announced Sunday night. Faceoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at Saratoga Field.
The Knights (16-2), ranked No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) national poll, earned their second-consecutive NCAA Tournament at-large bid after finishing runner-up in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament. After defeating Fredonia, 12-9, in the semifinals on Friday, the Knights fell to top-seeded and nationally number-one ranked Cortland, 14-3, in the championship game on Saturday. Geneseo's only two losses of the season are to Cortland.
Last season, the Knights defeated host Susquehanna, 15-7, in a first-round game before falling to Bowdoin, 10-6, in the second round in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Stevenson (13-5) won its first ever Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship with a 13-12 victory over Messiah in the conference championship game to clinch their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Mustangs were receiving votes in the latest IWLCA national poll.
Saturday's winner will move on to play either Franklin & Marshall or Catholic in the third round on Saturday, May 17th, at a site to be determined.
