Kathy Taylor Earns IWLCA Empire Region Coach of the Year Award
For the fourth straight season, SUNY Cortland women's lacrosse head coach Kathy Taylor has been selected as the Division III Empire Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
In 2014, Taylor guided Cortland to a school-best 22-1 record and the program's fourth consecutive NCAA Div. III "final four" berth. The team captured its 16th straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title, including six under Taylor, and opened the season by winning a school-record 22 straight games before losing to Trinity College (Conn.), 8-7, in the national semifinals.
Taylor is leaving Cortland to become the head women's lacrosse coach at Div. II Le Moyne College in Syracuse. In her six seasons with the Red Dragons, Taylor had a combined of 115-17 (.871) with six NCAA tournament appearances. She is a Cornell University alumna and won two New York State titles (2004 and 2005) while the head coach at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.
"I would like to thank Athletics Director Mike Urtz, President Bitterbaum and SUNY Cortland for the tremendous opportunity I was given to be head coach here for the past six years," Taylor said. "It has been just an amazing experience. I would also like to thank the student-athletes and coaches I had the pleasure to work with. I have enjoyed every minute of it.
"I feel lucky to have been a part of such a supportive successful athletic department and university. Leaving Cortland was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make in my professional life, but I feel confident that the program is in a good place and know that they will enjoy continued success."
