Seven student-athletes honored by ECAC
Seven SUNYAC Student-Athletes were awarded weekly honors for the week ending January 11th, 2015.
The ECAC Division III Upstate Men's Diver of the Week went to Geneseo freshman Sam Randall. Randall won the three-meter dive event to help Geneseo to a victory over RIT on Saturday. The freshman diver posted a score of 304.45 in the three-meter and then earned a second place finish in the one-meter with a score of 302.70. Both of Randall's scores were NCAA Zone Diving Championship qualifiers.
The ECAC Division III Upstate Women Diver of the Week went to Cortland's Miranda Fergus. Fergus took two top finishes on the springboard last week for the Red Dragons. In the one-meter dive event, Fergus posted a score of 263.30 points and then 258.80 points on the one-meter board.
The Men's Division III Upstate Indoor Track and Field Co-Athletes of the week went to Cortland teammates Melique Garcia and Nick Vachon. Garcia placed second out of 29 sprinters in the 200-meter dash at the Cornell Southern Tier Open. The senior's time of 22.52 seconds ranks third nationally Division III. Garcia also recorded a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash after clocking in a 52.81 seconds. Vachon finished second in the high jump at the Cornell Southern Tier Open with a height of 2.04 meters. Vachon's high jump mark last week currently ranks third nationally in Division III.
The Women's Indoor Track and Field were also Co-Athletes of the Week, between Cortland's Kenya Outram and Taylor Hudson. Outram won the 60-meter hurdles at the Cornell Southern Tier Open with a time of 9.30 seconds. The blistering time currently ranks sixth in all of Division III. Hudson put together a stellar performance in the high jump at the Cornell Southern Tier Open. The senior tied her own school record with a top height of 1.70 meters, which also ranks sixth in all of Division III.
The ECAC Division III Upstate Men's Basketball Player of the Week went to New Paltz's R.J Rosa. Rosa averaged 21.0 points and 4.3 steals as the Hawks put together three consecutive victories this past week. The North Branch, N.Y. native finished the week 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc and made six of his seven free throws. Rosa began the week by registering a career-high 31 points in a win over Cortland on Tuesday. He was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the week.
