SUNYAC Track & Field Championships underway at Brockport
BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at The College at Brockport's Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) got started on Friday.
The Brockport women, Sarah Swertfeger, Therez Young, Emily Noonan, and Beth Merritt, took the women's distance medley, with a facility and meet record 12:30.96 time. Coming in second and third was Oneonta (12:33.70) and Geneseo (12:31.81).
The men's distance medley went to Oneonta with a 10.29.87 mark. In second was Geneseo (10.31.16) and in third was Fredonia (10:31.32).
Brockport's Macy Merritt took the women's pole vault, with a meet record 3.65m mark. The previous meet record was 3.56m.
The men's pole vault went to Brockport's Cameron Shaughnessy, with a 4.95m mark.
Brockport's Alexandria Kober took the women's triple jump with an 11.41m mark. Teammate Hailey Smith, finished second with an 11.30m.
The men's triple jump went to Buffalo State's Josiah Thomas, who posted a 14.29m mark.
Fredonia's Nicole Desens took the women's shot put with a 12.88m. Brockport's Savannah Cook was second with a 12.32m.
J.D. Roth, Oneonta, took the men's shot put with a facility record 16.50m. Brockport's Antoine Keels finished second with a 15.84m.
Geneseo's Joanna Castrogivanni won the women's 5000 run with a time of 17:44.76. Oneonta's Alysa Drapeau placed second with a 17:51.79 time.
Oneonta's Charles Remillard took the men's 5000 with a 15:05.16 mark. Fredonia's Zakk Hess was in second with a 15:06.74 and Oneonta's Anthony Lupia (15:07.00) finished third.
Kayla Koelbel took the top spot in the women's pentathlon with a total of 3115 points. Brockport's Marisa Gosdeck finished in second with 3030 points. Treasure Glymph, Buffalo State, took third place with 2954 points.
Geneseo's Aidan Fullerton is first in the men's heptathlon after Day 1, with a score of 2803 points. The men's 60 meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000 meter run portions will be completed during tomorrow's session.
Buffalo State's Sasa Vann (57.23) and Jaslyn Porter (57.56) both beat the meet record in the women's 400 meter dash prelims.
Plattsburgh's Jess Huber took the women's 200 meter dash prelims, beating the meet record of 25.21 with a 24.90 mark.
Day two will start up tomorrow at 10:00am, Saturday, February 28th. Tickets will be available at the door. The ticket office will be opening one hour before the meet. Adult tickets each day are $6, with children (ages 5-12) $3. All SUNYAC students are admitted free of charge with proper school ID.
