SUNYAC announces annual women's track and field honors
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is honored to recognize this seasons Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Year, Female Field Athlete of the Year, and Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year awards as voted on by the conference coaches.
The Track Athlete of the Year award goes to Plattsburgh's Jess Huber (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown). The Field Athlete of the Year award goes to Cortland's Taylor Hudson (Victor, NY/Victor), and the Coach of the Year award honors went to Buffalo State's head coach, Eugene Lewis.
Huber, a Plattsburgh native, claimed victory in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Brockport, earning her All-Conference first team. She broke her own school records in both events and beat the previous conference and facility record in the 200 meter dash during the preliminary round, with a time of 24.90.
Cortland's Taylor Hudson has been honored with the Field Athlete of the Year award. The Victor, NY native took top spot in the long jump and high jump at the 2015 SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, earning her All-Conference first team honors. She tied the meet and facility record in the long jump, with a 5.77 meters mark and tied her own school record in the high jump with 1.70 meters.
Buffalo State's Eugene Lewis took the Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year honors. Lewis led the women's squad to its fourth SUNYAC Indoor championship, notching 115.5 points throughout the weekend. The Bengals previously won three straight titles, from 2009-11.
