Oneonta's Patrick Weinert won the NCAA Division III National Championship title in the hammer throw event to end a remarkable and dominating career.
Â
Weinert became the first field athlete in the history of the Oneonta track & field program and the seventh individual to claim a national championship. Weinert, who had the second farthest throw in Division III entering the meet, went 64.49m (211'-7") to open the competition. After the final three throws, he had thrown five feet farther than the second place competitor to claim his title.
The top eight finishers at the national meet earn All-America honors. Seventeen State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) athletes from five different institutions earned that label this weekend at the NCAA Division III National Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.Â
