Six SUNYAC Athletes Recognized by ECAC
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has six additional athletes who were honored with the award of being this week's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Athlete of the Week.Two different sports have particular athletes in the limelight as we have two track and field and four swimming and diving athletes.

The two track and field athletes both come from SUNY Cortland as both Melique Garcia, and Glen Forsythe were awarded with player of the week honors. Garcia posted ECAC-qualifying performances in two events at the Boston University Valentine Invitational. He finished 12th out of 117 competitors and was the third-best collegiate finisher (top Div. III) in the 60-meter dash in 7.02 seconds. He also finished 21st of 232 entries in the 200-meter dash in 21.95 seconds. His 200-meter time currently ranks seventh nationally, and he ranks second in the nation in the 60-meter dash based on a previous time this season (6.86).Â
Forsythe finished first out of 40 competitors in the long jump with a meet-record and ECAC-qualifying distance of 7.08 meters (23 feet, 2.75 inches) at the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational. He currently ranks sixth nationally in Div. III in the event, as well as fourth nationally in the triple jump based on a previous effort of 14.65 meters (48 feet, 0.75 inches).
For the Diver of the week we have Seniors Brandon Peifer (Geneseo), and Katelyn Haley (Fredonia State) who make this week list of athletes who made a big splash when it came to performing.  During Saturday's Geneseo Invitational, Peifer swept both diving events, setting the one-meter (11 dives) school record (507.60) and while also winning the three-meter (11 dives) event (507.90). Both scores were NCAA Zone Diving qualifiers by a mile.Â
Haley was a double winner in the Blue Devils home loss to Cortland. She won the one-meter with a score of 254.90 points and the three-meter with an NCAA zone qualifying score of 281.10 points.
John Estanislau from Fredonia State and Abby Max from Geneseo won this week's swimmer of the week awards. Estanislau won three individual events and one relay as Fredonia State defeated Cortland for the first time in 10 seasons, 175-123, at the Steele Hall Natatorium. Taking part in his final collegiate home meet, Estanislau finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.01), the 100-yard freestyle (:47.16), the 100-yard butterfly (:53.39), and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:39.83).Â
For the women's side, Max was a four-event winner to lead the Knights to first place at the Geneseo Invitational on Saturday. She won the 50-yard freestyle (24.88), 200-yard backstroke (2:13.01) and added legs to the winning 40-yard medley (4:02.17) and 400-yard freestyle (3:40.51) relays.
