SUNYAC Announces Men's Indoor Track and Field Annual Awards
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is honored to recognize this seasons Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Year, Male Field Athlete of the Year, and Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year awards.
The men's Track Athlete of the Year award goes to Tom Clark (Wantagh, NY/ Wantagh High School) from Geneseo. The men's Field Athlete of the Year award goes to Richard Pete (Utica, NY/ TR Proctor High School) from Buffalo State, and the Coach of the Year award honors Eugene Lewis of Buffalo State.
Tom Clark who won the Track Athlete of the Year picked up victories in both the 3000 meter run and the 1 mile Run at the SUNYAC Championships. Clark finished with the top time in the mile (4:17.14) beating everyone by over twelve seconds, and won the 3000m run by a little over five seconds (8:34.92). Clark is a senior for the Geneseo Knights and will be graduating in the spring.
Richard Pete from Buffalo State was this year's Field Athlete of the year. At the SUNYAC Championships he finished first in the triple jump with a jump of 14.88 meters shattering the old men's indoor championship meet record that was 14.63 meters that has been a record since 1982. Pete also finished fourth in the men's long jump. Pete is a junior who is majoring in business at Buffalo State.
Buffalo State's Eugene Lewis was named this seasons Coach of the Year award. Lewis helped bring the Buffalo State Bengals to their second SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships this year beating out Oneonta by eight points to win the title. This is Lewis's second SUNYAC Championship with Buffalo State as his other one came in 2011. Lewis is in his 13th season as Head Coach for Track and Field and also coaches football as well.
