Three from the SUNYAC Recognized as Top in Region by USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS – Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season were announced this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) had two coaches and one athlete honored.
Men's Field Athlete of the Year
ATLANTIC REGION – J.D. Roth – SUNY Oneonta
Roth, a junior from Pearl River, N.Y., is ranked No. 6 among Division III competitors in the weight throw and No. 7 in the weight throw. He claimed the SUNYAC title in the weight throw and was the runner-up at the ECAC meet, and finished third at both meets in the shot put. He will contest both events at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
Men's Coach of the Year
ATLANTIC REGION – Eugene Lewis – Buffalo State
Lewis, in his 14th year with the program, led Buffalo State to the SUNYAC title and No. 9 national ranking. As jumps coach, Lewis coached his squad to 50 points at the SUNYAC Championships. Buffalo State qualified five for the NCAA Championships.
Men's Assistant Coach of the Year
ATLANTIC REGION – Marques Dexter – SUNY Cortland
Dexter, jumps coach at SUNY Cortland in his fifth year, guided Glen Forsythe to the NCAA Championship where he is ranked in the national DIII top ten in both the long jump and triple jump. Cortland finished third in the SUNYAC Championships this season, as the No. 2 team in the region, and is currently ranked No. 14 in the nation.
