SUNYAC Announces Men's Track and Field Conference Awards
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its annual outdoor track and field individual award winners. All-Conference is made up of the individual first and second place finishers at the SUNYAC Championship. The top ten male overall point getters in both track and field events at the SUNYAC tournament are considered for the Most Outstanding Athlete Awards. The winners are voted on by the conference coaches. Joe Carr, of SUNY Oneonta was the recipient of the Outstanding Male Track Athlete, the Outstanding Male Field Athlete went to Patrick Weinert of SUNY Oneonta while Oneonta's Angelo Posillico was named the Coach of the Year.
Carr won his first individual outdoor title when he captured the 200 meter dash, recording a time of 21.20 in the finals. The Burnt Hills, New York native also finished second in the 100m dash and participated in medaling in both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays, finishing third and second. Carr helped SUNY Oneonta win their first-ever SUNYAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Patrick Weinert from Schenevus, New York, captured the SUNYAC title in the hammer throw, his second-straight hammer title. Weinert set a facility record with a throw of 55.28m, helping SUNY Oneonta win its first-ever Men's Outdoor Track and Field SUNYAC Championship. Weinert has previous honors being named to the 2012-13 Indoor SUNYAC All-Conference First Team and 2013-14 Indoor All-Conference Second Team.
Posillico guided his Red Dragon men's program to its first-ever Outdoor Championship when it claimed the 2014 SUNYAC Championship, collecting 173 team points. The Men's squad took home six individual titles in the 3000 meter steeplechase, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, 110 meter high hurdle, discus, and hammer throw. Posillico was appointed the Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach in August 2013. The Men's program finished third in 2011-12 SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, and second in 2012-13. Posillico is assisted by his staff Joseph Reed, Hannah Backus, Dave Forbes, Chris Popovici, Sean Bernstein and Jim Vogler.
