Track and Field's "Haircut for Hope" to Raise Money for Alzheimer's Association

Every few years I have grown my hair out to donate it to help make wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy treatments. As I am now well past the age where I should have hair this long, my wife Marissa Formes-Patrick '97 suggested that with this final haircut we should try and tie it together with something fun to help raise funds for a noble cause.
So we are doing that. I can think of no cause more noble to our C-State track & field family than to try and raise funds to donate to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Mike McGinnis, twin brother of our very own Peter McGinnis, who was taken last year by the disease.
If you haven't interacted with Peter, you are making a big mistake. Quite simply he is one of the best people I have ever met. I'm not talking about his work as a professor at the college, his work with us, or his work with USA Track and Field. I'm talking about the type of person he is. Plain and simple, I am a better person for having known him.
Sadly, Alzheimer's claimed the life of Peter's twin brother Mike last spring. So we have decided that it would be a wonderful fundraiser if we could raffle off the chance to be the person that chops off my ponytail!
Tickets are being sold at $5 per ticket. We did some quick math – if we can average 5 tickets per member of the team that means we will be able to donate at least $2500 to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Mike McGinnis. That is making a great statement!
I sincerely hope that you will join us in helping with this cause! We are trying to make a fast and strong statement – how 'loud' can our statement be in the next week! The 'haircut for hope' will take place at our home meet on Friday, April 18th.
For a little bit of added fun, if we can raise a total of $5000 between the raffle and the website donations, the winner will get a little extra bit of fun – after cutting off the ponytail for donation, I will happily allow them to shave my head!
