Henry and Bernstein Honored by Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame
Rochester, NY - The Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame proudly presented its annual awards at its awards banquet held at the RIT Inn & Conference Center in Rochester, NY this past Saturday, Sep. 7. The eight awards recognized performances and accomplishments made during the 2012-2013 school year.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) was represented by Buffalo State's Sasha Henry (Mt. Vernon/Mt. Vernon) and Oneonta's Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), as recipients of two of the eight awards.
Henry was awarded the Jack Tupper Daniels Award as the NCAA Division III Female Track Athlete of the Year. She made the most of her senior season in 2013, dominating the short sprints. During the indoor campaign, the health and wellness major captured SUNYAC titles in the 60 and 200-meter dashes and was named the SUNYAC Outstanding Runner of the Year. She then dominated at the national level, winning an NCAA Division III Championship in the 100-meter dash.
During the outdoor season, Henry was a three-time SUNYAC Champion in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the 4x100-meter relay. The at the NCAA meet, she earned her second national championship ring, winning the 100-meter dash, and also earned All-America certificates in the 200-meter dash (2nd) and in the 4x100-meter relay (2nd).
Berstein was the recipient of the James D. Ulrich Award as the Outstanding Male College Athlete of the year from a non-Division I school for the second consecutive year. It is named in honor of former SUNY Fredonia coach, James Ulrich, who coached the Blue Devils track & field program to 21 outdoor and 15 indoor conference titles. Ulrich coached 65 All-Americans during his tenure and was the regional Coach of the Year in 1994.

This past July, post-graduation, Bernstein capped what is the greatest male track career in the history of the program by winning two Gold Medals and a Silver Medal at the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel. His medal-winning performances in international competition followed his final NCAA Div. III championships in May where he won two national titles, which brought his career total to three. His three national titles are the most all time of any SUNY Oneonta athlete in the history of the college.

The purpose of the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame is to recognize those individuals who made significant and outstanding contributions to the Sport of Athletics (including Track & Field, Long Distance Running, Race Walking, and Cross Country Running) while living within the geographic boundaries (New York State West of and including the counties of Oswego, Onondaga, Cortland, and Broome) of the Niagara Association as athletes (including Masters), coaches, and/or administrators (including Competition Officials).
