Four Athletes Open Indoor Season with Weekly Honor
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the first week of Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4.
Cortland senior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) has been named the Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. Pericozzi won the pole vault at the Cornell Relays by clearing 4.80 meters (15 feet, 9 inches). The height is an ECAC qualifier and is the best current mark nationally in Division III through the first weekend of the season.
Pericozzi's performance would have been an NCAA provisional mark and in the top 13 nationally last season. This year, however, there are no NCAA automatic or provisional standards. Instead, the top 13 declared men's performances (and top 15 women's performances) in each event will qualify for the NCAA Div. III Championships.
Oneonta senior Sarah Timmons (Schodack/Maple Hill) was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week in the sport of track & field.

Timmons opened her final indoor season for the Red Dragons in fine fashion this past Saturday by winning her two individual events at the Cornell Relays. Timmons won both the 20-1lbs. weight throw and the shot put for the Red Dragons, which included her breaking her own school record in the latter. Timmons threw the weight 15.74m (51'-07.75”), which won the event by one-half inch over a thrower from Div. I Cornell. In the shot put, Timmons recorded a distance of 11.69m (38'-04.25”), which bettered her own school record by one-quarter inch.
Buffalo State sprinter Erica Johnson (Poughkeepsie/FDR) Women's Track Athlete of the Week after setting a new school record in her first race of the season.
A health & wellness major and defending NCAA Champion in the 55-meter dash, Johnson picked up where she left off last season, sprinting to a victory in the 60-meter dash, clocking 7.55 seconds, at the Youngstown State Invitational on Friday. She broke her own record of 7.65 set last season.

Geneseo junior Alex Brimstein ran one of the fastest 3000m races in the country in the opening meet of the indoor season at Cornell to earn the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week. He was second by 2/1000ths to a University of Toronto athlete. Brimstein finished with a current NCAA Division III best time of 8:33.90.
