Weekly Track and Field Honors go to Buffalo State, Cortland and Geneseo
Geneseo seniors Eddie Novara (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) and Lee Berube (Putnam Station, NY/Ticonderoga) and Cortland senior Will Razzano (Manorville, NY/Riverhead) have earned State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Track and Field weekly awards for the week ending April 29.
Novara and Berbue share SUNYAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors after each setting conference records at the Penn Relays last Thursday.
Novara posted the top finish for the Blue Knights as he ran a second-place time of 29:32.75 in the 10,000-meter run to shatter teammate Berube’s SUNYAC record of 29:48.95, which was set two weeks ago at the Bucknell Bison Open. Novara’s time is the second fastest of the 2012 NCAA Division III season.
Berube claimed a SUNYAC record as well with his 16th-place time of 14:21.53 in the 5,000-meter run. He currently ranks seventh on the Div. III national ranking chart.
Razzano was chosen as the SUNYAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. He finished first in the triple jump at the Cornell Big Red Invitational with a distance of 14.69 meters (48 feet, 2.5 inches), a performance that is currently eighth on the Div. III national ranking list and is an ECAC Championship qualifier.
Buffalo State junior Sasha Henry (Mt. Vernon) and Cortland junior Amber Stephens (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) have earned the SUNYAC Women’s Track and Field awards for the week ending April 29.
Henry was a double-winner at the Roberts Wesleyan Raider Open, winning both the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 12.01 and 25.60 seconds, respectively. Her time in the 100-meter dash was the fourth-fastest time in Division III this season. This is her first-ever weekly conference recognition.
Stephens tied an 18-year-old school record in the triple jump with her ECAC-qualifying distance of 11.54 meters (37' 10.5") at the Cornell Big Red Invitational. She finished fourth overall and was the top Div. III performer. Stephens also placed 20th in the long jump at 4.98 meters (16' 4.25").
