Plattsburgh Leads SUNYAC at NCAA Championships
WINNECONNE, Wis. – The Plattsburgh State women’s cross country team ran an outstanding race Saturday, finishing seventh overall at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
The Cardinals scored 328 points in their second straight appearance at the national meet. After a 30th place finish last season, Plattsburgh returned to the national stage Saturday and finished as the top State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) team with all five point scorers placing in the top 100. SUNY Geneseo ran to a 12th place team finish.
Plattsburgh was led by senior standout Stefanie Braun, who was making her third appearance at the national meet. The Dix Hills, N.Y. native earned her first All-American citation as the top runner representing the SUNYAC. Braun finished 15th overall, clocking in at 21:24.41 on the 6k course.
Julia Warren (71st, 22:20.45), Brittany Trahan (75th, 22:22.9) and Amanda Schermerhorn (78th, 22:24.33) paced the rest of the Cardinal team. Kelley Driscoll rounded out the Plattsburgh top five, crossing the finish line in 22:32.18 for 95th place.

The Geneseo women's cross country team placed 12th for the second year in a row as the Blue Knights scored 380 points. Senior Alyssa Smith led the Geneseo contingent with a 65th place finish in a time of 22:04 over the six kilometers. Junior Danae Polsin ran 84th in 22:12, senior Ashley Jones was 101st in 22:18, first year Cassie Goodman ran 108th in 22:21 and junior Brigid Heenan completed the scoring five with a time of 22:57, good enough for 189th. First year Alyssa Knott ran 209th in 23:09 and junior Emily Sullivan placed 212th of 277 runners with a time of 23:13. The Blue Knights have run at 13 consecutive and 18 overall national championship meets.
Cortland senior Alyson Dalton earned All-America honors for the second straight year.Dalton finished 30th with a time of 21:38.35 over 6,000 meters. The top 35 finishers are recognized as All-Americans. Dalton placed 31st at nationals last season.
Two other runners also competed for Cortland as individual entries at the championships. Freshman Bori Tozser finished in 90th place in 22:14.74 and junior Jordyn Naylon crossed the line 160th in 22:40.38.

Junior Nichole Wischoff of the New Paltz was also an individual entry and placed 103rd, covering the 6K course in 22:19.36. Wischoff's performance lowered the program's 6K record for the fourth time this season.
