SUNYAC announces winter weekly award winners for the week of Jan. 25- Feb. 1
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its athletes of the week for the week of Jan. 25- Feb. 1.
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kyle Richardson (SR) Â
Plattsburgh, Forward (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin HS)
Kyle Richardson shot a combined 60-percent (18-for-30) from the field and averaged 22.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in two victories for Plattsburgh State over the weekend. The senior posted his league-best 10th double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in Friday night's 94-92 win at Buffalo State, with 20 of his points coming in the second half. Saturday afternoon against Fredonia saw Richardson register his ninth 20-plus point effort on the year, as he poured in 22 points while grabbing nine boards.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Keyonte Edwards (SO) Â
Buffalo State, Guard (Buffalo, NY/O'Hara)
Keyonte Edwards averaged 17.0 points and 17.0 rebounds to go with seven assists and seven steals in a 1-1 weekend for the Bengals. She had 18 points and 16 rebounds in a five point loss to Plattsburgh on Friday, and had 16 points and 18 boards in a win over conference opponent Potsdam on Saturday.
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Trevor Hills (JR)
Geneseo, Forward (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.)
Trevor Hills keyed the Geneseo offense during a 2-0-1 week for the Knights. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Tuesday's 3-1 victory at Oswego. In Saturday's 2-1 win at Morrisville, he scored his Division III-leading eighth power-play goal of the season, which also proved to be the game-winner, after assisting the Knights' first tally as well.
ICE HOCKEY GOALIE OF THE WEEK – Spencer Finney (SR) Â
Plattsburgh, Goalie (Pontypool, Ontario/Colgate University)
Spencer Finney went 1-0-0 for Plattsburgh State this weekend with a 24 save shutout performance at Buffalo State. Finney was tested throughout the game, turning away numerous odd man rushes and breakaways to persevere the 1-0 victory for the Cardinals. It was the senior's second shutout of the season as he improves to 10-2-1 on the season.
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Cole Stallard (FR)
Plattsburgh, Forward (Waleska, Ga/New Hampshire Junior Monarchs)
Cole Stallard netted a pair of power play goals including the game-winner in a 4-3 win at Fredonia Friday night. With the two goals, Stallard now leads the No. 3 Cardinals in goals with 12.

FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Miranda Fergus (SR)
Cortland (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook, N.Y.)
Miranda Fergus set a school record and Oneonta pool record in 1-meter diving with her 11-dive score of 468.15 points during Cortland's 139-104 dual-meet victory over the Red Dragons. She broke her own school record of 454.40 points set in 2013.
FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Nancy Nasky (FR)
Geneseo (Brighton, N.Y./Brighton)
Nancy Nasky set a pair of pool records in winning the 1,650 (17:45.53) and 500 (5:12.49) freestyle events as the Knights defeated host New Paltz, 142-115 on Saturday.
MALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Arron Carlson (JR)
Fredonia (LeRoy, N.Y./Notre Dame)
Arron Carlson exceeded the NCAA zone qualifying standard off both boards during Saturday's dual meet win at Brockport. He won the 3-meter with a six-dive score of 332.90 points, almost 58 points above the standard. Competing with exhibition status in the 1-meter, Carlson scored 293.55 points -- which would have won the competition.
MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Kevin  Schaub (JR)
Geneseo (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee)
Kevin Schaub set a pool record in winning the 200 backstroke (1:54.33) and also finished first in the 200 butterfly (1:58.43) to lead the Knights over host New Paltz, 151-106, Saturday.Â
FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Meghan Serdock (JR)
Oneonta (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River)
For the second straight week, Serdock set a personal best mark in the weight throw. This past Saturday at Cornell she eclipsed the 17-meter mark in the weight throw with her heave of 17.19 meters (56' 4 ¾"). Her distance improved her the No. 2 throw all-time for Oneonta while moving her up to the seventh spot in Division III. Her distance is also the third farthest in SUNYAC conference history.
FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Rachael Shine (JR)
Oneonta (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)
Rachael Shine was the top performer for Oneonta at the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University this past weekend. Shine was the top collegiate finisher and 13th overall in the 800-meter run in a new SUNYAC record time of 2:10.25. Her time eclipsed the mark she set last March at the NCAA championships where she finished third to earn All-American honors. Her time is currently the fastest this season in Division III.
MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Mitch Couch (JR)
Cortland (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta)
Mitch Couch finished third out of 19 competitors in the weight throw at 15.56 meters (51' 0.75") and fifth of 20 in the shot put at 13.79 meters (45' 3") at the Cornell University Kane Invitational. His weight throw distance is an ECAC qualifier.
MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Collin Mulcahy (SR) Â
Fredonia (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia)
Collin Mulcahy ran a 4:11.32 mile at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Invitational. It converts to a time of 4:14.54, which is No. 11 in NCAA D-III and tops in the conference. He was also part of Fredonia's school record-setting distance medley relay.
