SUNYAC Announces 2016 Outdoor Track and Field Awards
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference is proud to announce its 2016 outdoor track and field individual awards.
Oneonta's Joe Carr has been selected as the Outstanding Male Track Athlete after finishing first in both the 100 and 200m dash at the SUNYAC Championship meet. Carr crossed the line in 10.92 in the 100m and 21.27 in the 200m to help guide his team to a second place finish.
Cortland's Mitchel Couch continued his success from indoor as he repeats as the Outstanding Male Field Athlete. Couch finished first in the hammer with a throw of 55.59m and he came in second in the discus (44.79m) and shot put (14.91m). He helped lead his team to its 13th overall SUNYAC championship title.
Cortland's Steve Patrick is the 2016 Outdoor Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading his team to a first place finish in the SUNYAC Championship meet. The Red Dragons totaled 166 points to capture their first SUNYAC title since 2013. Patrick has been honored as the Outdoor Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year three times and was honored as the Women's Coach of the Year four times.
Buffalo State's Jazlyn Porter has been selected as the Outstanding Female Track Athlete with two first place finishes in the 200m and 400m dash in the SUNYAC Championships over the weekend. Porter finished the 200m in 24.96 and she broke the SUNYAC meet record with a time of 55.33. The Bengals finished fourth overall.
Brockport's Jessica Craven has been named the 2016 SUNYAC Outstanding Female Field Athlete after a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 41.39m and a second place finish with a throw of 12.86m in the shot put. Craven helped lead her team to a second place finish overall.
Oneonta's Angelo Posillico has been named the 2016 SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading his team to its first-ever SUNYAC title. This is Posillico's first time being honored with this award, although he was named the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2014. The Red Dragons tallied 189 points in the SUNYAC meet just 5.5 points ahead of Brockport to make school history.
The 2016 men's and women's outdoor track and field All-Conference is based on the first and second places finishes at the SUNYAC meet. The lists were announced at the completion of the meet. Click here to view: Men's All-Conference | Women's All-Conference
