SUNYAC Athletes of the Week
The Athletes of the Week for the SUNYAC have been announced for the week of April 11-17.

BASEBALL PLAYER – Cortland
John Adornetto (Commack, NY/Commack), sophomore shortstop
John Adornetto (Commack, NY) batted .579 (11-for-19) with four walks, eight runs scored and three RBI during a 4-1 week for the nationally 12th-ranked Red Dragons. He went 4-for-6 with a double and two runs scored in a 15-3 win at Fredonia Sunday and posted two hits each in both games of a doubleheader at Oswego and in a 10-5 win at Fredonia.
BASEBALL PITCHER – Oswego
Dustin Lefave (Moravia, NY/Moravia), senior
Oswego State senior pitcher Dustin Lefave (Moravia, NY) helped the Lakers snap a seven-game losing skid by recording a nine-inning complete game win over nationally-ranked #12 Cortland in a 3-1 decision on Wednesday. Lefave fanned eight, including the final four Red Dragon batters of the game, and walked three allowing one unearned run to score in the fourth inning. The win snapped Cortland’s ten-game win streak and it marked the first time since April 2, 2006 that Oswego State had defeated Cortland.

Donnalyn Cross (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley), senior second baseman
Donnalyn Cross (Binghamton, NY) batted .647 (11-for-17) with three homers, two doubles, two walks, nine runs scored, four steals and five RBI in a 6-0 week for the nationally 18th-ranked Red Dragons. She homered in each game of a doubleheader sweep vs. New Paltz and was a combined 5-for-7 with a homer and double in a sweep at Geneseo. Cross became Cortland's career hits leader during the week - she is currently at 229 hits during her four years with the Red Dragons.
SOFTBALL PITCHER – Fredonia
Ashley LaPorta (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary’s), junior
Ashley LaPorta (Buffalo, NY) pitched a no-hitter in a 9-0 conference win over SUNY Potsdam. She walked two and struck out five to improve to 4-1 on the season and post the first shutout for the Blue Devils this year. It was the second no-hitter in LaPorta’s career who shut down U. Mass-Dartmouth on March 17, 2009.
MEN’S LACROSSE PLAYER – Oneonta
Jimmy van de Veerdonk (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley), sophomore midfield
Jimmy van de Veerdonk (Putnam Vally, NY) led Oneonta to a 2-0 record last week with late minute heroics. Trailing 10-9 vs. Hartwick he scored the final three goals over the last 4:09 of the game to lead the Red Dragons to the come-from-behind win. Against Oswego he scored the game-tying goal and then assisted on the game-winning goal with four seconds left in the game in a 10-9 win. He won 33-of-45 face offs this week and collected 21 ground balls.
MEN’S LACROSSE GOALIE – Brockport

Senior goalie Jon Fiorillo (Painted Post, NY) made a career-high 23 saves to help the Golden Eagles pick up an 11-10 win over Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon. Fiorillo made eight critical saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the Brockport lead as the Golden Eagles handed Plattsburgh its first SUNYAC loss of the season. He also made 12 saves in the 12-9 loss to Geneseo on Wednesday. Fiorillo stopped 69.7 percent of the shots he faced against the Cardinals, and 61.4 percent of the shots he faced for the week.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE PLAYER – Oneonta
Rebecca Monteith (West Islip, NY/West Islip), junior attack
In a 1-1 week for Oneonta Rebecca Monteith scored eight goals and added two assists. She notched two goals and two assists in the 16-5 win over New Paltz. Against Geneseo she scored six of Oneonta’s ten goals to become only the third player in the history of the women's lacrosse program to surpass 200 career points. Monteith currently has 167 goals and 35 assists for 202 career points.

Senior Jamie Kaminsky (Oakdale, NY) made five big saves on the road as Brockport knocked off Geneseo, ranked 20th in the country by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. Geneseo entered averaging more than 18 goals a game in winning its first seven contests, but Kaminsky and Brockport's defense limited the Blue Knights to their lowest scoring output of the season. Kaminsky also made six saves during a 15-4 win over RIT as Brockport blanked the Tigers for more than 35 minutes, and followed with three saves in a 17-3 showing against Oswego as Brockport won its fourth straight game.

Senior Cameron Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY) helped Brockport's win both the 400 and 1,600 meter relays during Sunday's Brockport Golden Eagles Track and Field Invitational. On a windy, snowy day of competition the Golden Eagles' 4-by-100 meter relay team won the event in an ECAC qualifying time of 43.43 seconds, 0.11 seconds faster than runner-up Mohawk Valley Community College. Johnson also helped Brockport's 4-by-400 relay team capture the title in 3:53.08, a full 17 seconds clear of the second-place squad from Alfred State. Johnson also placed second in the 400 hurdles, running in 58.41 seconds.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE – Geneseo
Marissa Liberati (Manchester, NY/Red Jacket), sophomore
Marissa Liberati (Manchester, NY/Red Jacket), sophomore
Marissa Liberati (Manchester, NY) posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She won in a school and SUNYAC record time of 10:37.00 at the Bucknell Bison Open against primarily Division I competition. She broke the old conference mark by 12 seconds set in 2004.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE – Cortland
Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), junior
Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster, NY) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the pole vault with his winning height of 5.00 meters (16 feet, 4.75 inches) at the Ithaca/Cortland Invitational Tuesday in Cortland. His performance is the second best in both SUNYAC and Cortland history behind Jake Zanetti's 5.06 meters (16 feet, 7.25 inches) that won the 2009 NCAA title. Pericozzi missed on three attempts at a potential SUNYAC record and NCAA automatic qualifying 5.08 meters.

Brittany Talani (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary’s), senior
At the Brockport Open, Brittany Talani (Lancaster, NY) posted a top three finish in two events. She won the discus out of a field of 16 competitors with a distance of 34.07 meters and finished second in the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 11.66 meters.
