ICE HOCKEY PLAYER - Geneseo
David Arduin, junior forward
Junior David Arduin (Halfmoon Bay, BC) scored a pair of power play goals to lead #10 Geneseo to a 4-1 SUNYAC win over visiting Morrisville Saturday afternoon. Arduin netted the first of his two goals at 15:30 of the first period and gave the Ice Knights a 4-0 lead at 6:15 of the second period with his ninth of the season. Geneseo is 7-3-1 in the SUNYAC and moves into sole possession of second place in the conference standings, ahead of third place Morrisville.
ICE HOCKEY GOALIE - Cortland
Brittan Kuhlman, junior
In Cortland's 2-0 win at #7 Plattsburgh on Friday night, Brittan Kuhlman (Omaha, NE/Winnipeg Saints) turned aside 40 shots as Cortland posted its first-ever shutout of the Cardinals and its first-ever win at Plattsburgh. He preserved the shutout with 15 third-period saves. Kuhlman followed up with 31 saves in a come-from-behind overtime win at Potsdam the next night. For the weekend, he posted a 2-0 record with a .922 save percentage and a 2.97 GAA. Kuhlman is 3-3-1 on the season with a .903 save percentage and a 3.99 GAA.
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE - Morrisville
Taylor Vince, defense
Defensemen Taylor Vince (Barrie, ONT/Couchiching Tigers) tallied two goals and two assists for Morrisville State in the 8-6 victory over Brockport on Friday. He tied the game at 1-1 6:15 into the second period before assisting on back-to-back goals later in the period to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead. Vince opened the third period with an unassisted goal for a 6-2 lead.
MEN'S BASKETBALL - Buffalo State
Chris Ruiz, senior guard
Chris Ruiz (Washington Heights, NY/Bronx St. Agnes) averaged 22.5 points and nine rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals. Friday vs. Oneonta, Ruiz shot 50% from the floor as he finished with game highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Saturday, all of Ruiz's 19 points came in the second half as Plattsburgh took a four-point halftime lead and blew it into a 14-point win over New Paltz.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Oneonta
Samantha Szkotak, junior forward
Samantha Szkotak (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) led the Red Dragons to a 3-0 record last week registering double figures in all three games. She scored a team high 20 points, including 18 in the second half of a come-from-behind 80-72 win against Cortland. Szkotak added 15 points in both wins over Plattsburgh and Potsdam. She had a solid all-around week averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 boards and 2.7 assists. Oneonta is now 9-2 in the SUNYAC and tied for second with New Paltz.
MEN'S SWIMMING - Brockport
Nathan Dubois, sophomore
Nathan Dubois (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) won four individual events and one relay in two days. He won the 50 free (22.46) and the 100 free (50.05) Friday night against Buffalo State. Facing Oneonta Saturday, Dubois won the 50 free (22.94) by 0.60 seconds, and also won the 100 free (50.28), and led the Brockport 200 free relay team, which won in an Oneonta pool record of 1:30.93, 5.37 seconds faster than the runner-ups.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING - Buffalo State
Kaitlin Mergler, sophomore
Kaitlin Mergler was a triple-winner in a dual meet against Brockport, setting two school records. She won the 100 fly with a new record time of 1:03.23 and broke her old mark in the 200 IM in 2:19.24. Mergler also touched first in the 200 free (1:58.77).
MEN'S DIVING - Oneonta
Jermaine Miller, freshman
Jermaine Miller (Elmira, NY/Southside) was a double winner in a dual-meet win against Brockport this past Saturday to earn his third SUNYAC men's diver of the week honor on the season. He set a pool and school record in the 1-meter diving event. His 11-dive score of 469.60 broke the 40-year old school record and his six dive score of 288.90 set an Oneonta pool record.
WOMEN'S DIVING - Fredonia
Sarah Ficarro, sophomore
Sophomore Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY/Owego) won four times in two days. She was a double-winner Jan. 29 at Cortland, 252.65 points in the 1-meter and 255.30 in the 3-meter. The following day at Ithaca, she defeated 17 other women with a 449.60 in the 1-meter and 459.65 in the 3-meter. The Sunday scores are NCAA provisional marks for 11-dive competitions.

Fredonia & Plattsburgh
Nick Guarino, senior
Fredonia State senior Nick Guarino (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) won the 800 meters at the Lake Erie College Open in an NCAA automatic qualifying and SUNYAC conference record time of 1:50.99. The old conference record was 1:52.34 set in 1985. Guarino's time Saturday was the fastest this year by an NCAA Division III male.
Mike Heymann, senior
Plattsburgh senior Mike Heymann (Tully, NY/Tully) ran to a second place finish in the men's 5000 meter run at the Boston University Terrier Classic with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 14:13.05. He finished six seconds behind the winner from Dartmouth and five seconds ahead of the second Dartmouth runner who took third. Heymann's finish set a new conference and school record in the event. He broke the old conference record by over ten seconds.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE - Plattsburgh
Amy McCasland, junior
Amy McCasland (Saranac, NY/Saranac) led the Cardinals with a strong outing at the Boston University Terrier Classic over the weekend. McCasland finished fourth in the 500 meter dash with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:17.73. She was also part of Plattsburgh's 4x400 meter relay team who finished 10th in 4:00.80, setting a new school record. The distance medley relay also took 10th in 12:49.72. Both relay times were ECAC-qualifying marks.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE - Brockport
Ray Lund, senior
Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) defeated 50 other athletes to capture the weight throw with an NCAA Division III National Championship provisional qualifying standard throw of 18.60 meters Saturday during the Lake Erie College Open in Geneva, Ohio. Lund's throw was .61 meters farther than the runner-up. He also placed fifth in the shot put (15.15 meters).
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE - Cortland
Kristen Serikstad, graduate
Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay) tied for third place in the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3.75 inches) at the Colgate University Class of '32 Invitational. She tied with an athlete from Binghamton and finished ahead of five Div I athletes.
