SUNYAC Selects Athletes of the Week
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER - Morrisville
Geoff Matzel, junior forward
A junior forward from Chittenango (Cazenovia High School), Geoff Matzel led Morrisville to a 1-0-1 road weekend, scoring twice (one power play) against No. 15-ranked Buffalo State in a 3-3 overtime draw on Friday, and netting both scores in a 2-1 defeat of Fredonia the following night. The game winner against Fredonia was a shorthanded tally. He currently leads the Mustangs in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 12 points. Morrisville is currently 5-2-1 in conference action.

Paul Beckwith, junior goalie
Paul Beckwith, a junior from Cleveland, Ohio (Pembroke Lumberkings), stopped 50 of 52 shots he faced in two more SUNYAC wins, helping first-place Oswego finish the first half of the conference schedule with a commanding 8-0 league mark. He stopped 15 shots in Friday's 4-2 win over Brockport. On Saturday, Beckwith stymied No. 10 Geneseo by making 35 saves for his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 decision. The top-ranked Lakers are now 11-0-0 overall.
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE - Brockport
Patrick Hayden, freshman defenseman
Patrick Hayden netted his first-ever collegiate goal to stake Brockport to a 3-1 lead and the Golden Eagles would need that goal, getting past Cortland 4-2 Saturday night for Brockport's first win of the year. He is a freshman defenseman from Springfield, Pa. (Philly Little Flyer).
MEN'S BASKETBALL - Plattsburgh
Carl Munnerlyn, senior guard
Carl Munnerlyn (Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie) averaged 20.0 points and 4.5 rebounds as the Plattsburgh Cardinals won two SUNYAC games to begin their defense of the conference title. He had a collegiate-high of 23 points in a 87-73 victory over New Paltz, then followed that up with 17 points as the Cardinals - ranked 26th in NCAA Division III - defeated Oneonta, 69-60, in a rematch of last season's SUNYAC title game. Munnerlyn had six assists and four steals in the two conference games while hitting on 11 of 21 shots from the field (52.5 percent), 3 of 8 from beyond the arc (37.5 percent), and 15 of 18 from the foul line (83.3 percent), including 7 of 7 in the win over Oneonta. Munnerlyn also had 14 points in a 62-58 non-conference win over St. Lawrence earlier in the week. He is the second Plattsburgh player to be named SUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week this season. Errol Daniyan was the recipient Nov. 22.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Cortland
Brittany Cohen, junior guard
Cortland guard Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) averaged 15.3 points, three rebounds and seven assists in three Cortland wins last week to earn the SUNYAC women's basketball player of the week. The junior posted 16 points, four rebounds and five assists in the Red Dragons' 67-55 victory over Ithaca, then recorded a double-double (17 points, 10 assists) in the team's conference-opening 93-86 win at Buffalo State. One night later in the team's 84-63 triumph at Fredonia, Cohen tallied 13 points, four rebounds and six assists to help the Red Dragons remain unbeaten (6-0) this season.

Ken Pink (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) accounted for 110 points individually at this past weekend's ECAC Winter Championship meet, helping the Blue Wave finish second as a team. He won the 100-yard breast in 58.56, finished third in the 200-yard breast in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 2:06.59, swam fourth in the 200 IM in 1:56.39, placed fifth in the 400 IM in 4:15.58. Pink was also part of the 200-yard medley relay team that turned in a second place time of 1:35.13 and the 400 medley team that was third in 3:33.70.

Michelle Rodriguez, senior
Michelle Rodriguez (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) earned Female Swimmer of the Meet at the ECAC Winter championships this past weekend on Long Island. She won the 100-yard freestyle with an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying and meet-record time of 51.15; won the 200 free in an NCAA provisional and meet-record time of 1:51.44 and captured the 500 free in a provisional and meet record time of 5:01.17. In addition, she anchored the second place 800 freestyle relay team to an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7:44.48, the 400 freestyle relay team to a provisional time of 3:33.51 and the 400 medley relay team to a third-place time of 3:58.99.

Michelle Rodriguez (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) earned Female Swimmer of the Meet at the ECAC Winter championships this past weekend on Long Island. MEN'S DIVING - Oneonta
Jermaine Miller, freshman
At the ECAC Winter Championship meet this past weekend; Jermaine Miller (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) was third in the 3-meter diving and second in the 1-meter diving events. His score of 432.80 in the 1-meter event was an NCAA provisional score for the NCAA championship meet in March. The men placed 7th overall as a team with 386 points.

Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY/Owego) helped lead Fredonia State to a first-place finish in the nine-team Blue Devil Invitation this weekend as she finished second off the 1-meter board with an NCAA provisional score of 395.00. Ficarro also finished second off the 3-meter board.

Geneseo junior Lee Berube (Putnam Station, N.Y./Ticonderoga) won the 5,000 meters in a school record and NCAA Automatic Qualifying time of 14:23.34 and participated on the winning Distance Medley Relay, which crossed in a time of 10:41.79.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE- Cortland
Will Razzano, senior
Cortland senior Will Razzano (Manorville, N.Y./Riverhead) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the triple jump with his third-place distance of 14.36 meters (47 feet, 1.5 inches) at the Cornell Relays.
Lee Berube, junior

Brockport sophomore Nicole Jones (West Charlton, N.Y./Galway) set personal records and qualified for the ECAC championships in both the shot put and the weight throw at the season-opening Cornell University Relays. Jones placed fifth in the shot (11.94 meters) with the highest throw from a Division III athlete, and she was sixth in the weight throw (14.26 meters).
