Mike Heymann and Nick Guarino Qualify for Nationals
SUNYAC had two student-athletes automatically qualify to participate in the 2011 Men’s Indoor Track and Field NCAA Championship over the weekend while setting new conference records.
Fredonia State senior Nick Guarino (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) won the 800 meters at the Lake Erie College Open in an NCAA automatic qualifying and SUNYAC conference record time of 1:50.99. The old conference record was 1:52.34 set in 1985. Guarino's time Saturday was the fastest this year by an NCAA Division III male.

Plattsburgh senior Mike Heymann (Tully, NY/Tully) ran to a second place finish in the men's 5000 meter run at the Boston University Terrier Classic with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 14:13.05. He finished six seconds behind the winner from Dartmouth and five seconds ahead of the second Dartmouth runner who took third. Heymann's finish set a new conference and school record in the event. He broke the old conference record by over ten seconds.
Capital University will serve as the host for the 2011 Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 11-12. More Information.
