Buffalo State Women's Indoor Track & Field Wins the SUNYAC Championship

GENEVA, NY—Buffalo State’s women’s indoor track and field team won its second-consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship today, edging out second-place Geneseo by three points, at the Bristol Field House on the campuses Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
The Bengals captured four individual championships, broke three school records, and had four NCAA qualifying performances. Buffalo State’s sprinters dominated the docket to lift the Bengals to victory, taking six of the top eight spots in both the 55-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Individual event winners included Erica Johnson (Poughkeepsie/FDR), Neshay Maxwell (Rochester/Edison Tech), Jessica Walker (Rochester/Aquinas) and Taniqua Hollingsworth (Buffalo/East). Johnson won the 55-meter dash with a new school and SUNYAC record and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 7.11 seconds. She was also third in the triple jump (10.75m) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.40). Maxwell claimed the 55-meter hurdles with a school record and NCAA provisional time of 8.50 seconds. Walker also had a school record and NCAA provisional qualifier, winning the triple jump (11.61m), and was second in the long jump (5.42m) and second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.56). Hollingsworth crossed first in the 200-meter dash (25.60) and was fourth in the 55-meter dash (7.40).
Latoya Edwards (Brooklyn/Clara Barton) posted three strong individual performances, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 55-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 7.22 seconds. She was also second in the 200-meter dash (25.65), and was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.59). Talia Cumberbatch (Bayshore/Brentwood) also had a strong showing, placing second in the high jump clearing 1.61 meters, and was fourth in the long jump at 5.23 meters.
Other top finishes for the Bengals included Tenisha Jones (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) finishing fifth in the triple jump (10.75m), Imani Richardson (Southampton/Southampton) was fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.46), and Nate’ya Lassic (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie) was fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.40).
