Buffalo State's Track & Field Teams Ranked 19th in Division III
Buffalo State’s men’s and women’s track and field teams are each ranked 19th in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Team Computer Rankings.
Buffalo State’s men’s team has one automatic NCAA qualifier and two provisional qualifiers, and the women’s squad is provisionally qualified in three events so far.
On the men’s side, running in his first meet since winning the indoor 55-meter national title, Xavier Mateen (New Rochelle/New Rochelle) guaranteed a trip to the outdoor NCAA meet, running the 100-meter dash at Baldwin-Wallace with the nation’s second fastest time this season at 10.55 seconds. He also ran a leg of the 4x100 meter relay along with Rawl Carew (Brooklyn/Canarsie), Jalen Law (Buffalo/O’Hara), and Rashawn Simpson (Queens/Springville Gardens) that blazed a provisional time of 41.27 seconds and also currently ranks second in the country. Christopher Rones (Bronx/New Rochelle) also provisionally qualified in the 110-meter hurdles and ranks tied for 11th with a time of 14.80 seconds.
The women are led by Erica Johnson (Poughkeepsie/FDR), Jazmin Dunham (Rochester/Olympia), Nate’ya Lassic (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie) and Lakeisha Nicholas (Far Rockaway/Canarsie) who teamed up to win the 4x100-meter relay at Baldwin-Wallace with a provisional time of 47.29 seconds, which is the third best time in the nation this season. Johnson and Dunham also posted provisional qualifiers in individual events. Johnson, the indoor 55-meter dash national champion, ranks second in the 100-meter dash at 12.06 seconds, and Dunham is eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a school record time of 14.62 seconds.
Buffalo State will compete next Saturday at Roberts Wesleyan.
