Conference Chooses Weekly Athletes
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER - Fredonia
Ben Waldman, sophomore forward
Ben Waldman (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored his first three goals of the season as Fredonia posted two wins at Johnson and Wales over the weekend. He scored twice and added an assist in a 7-3 win Dec. 10, and led off the scoring Dec. 11 in an eventual 3-2 victory.

Dan Jones, sophomore goalie
Dan Jones, a sophomore from Ontario, registered a win in his first collegiate start against 13th-ranked Utica on Friday after posting 27 saves. He also made two pivotal saves on a 1-on-0 chance with five minutes remaining to preserve the one-goal lead. Jones suffered the loss on Saturday in a 5-2 decision at Hobart despite making 37 saves. Two of the five goals he allowed were in 5-on-3 situations.
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE - Buffalo State
Mike Zannella, freshman forward
Mike Zannella (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) tallied his first two-goal game of his young career, netting both Bengal goals in a 3-2 loss to No. 13 Utica to be named the SUNYAC ice hockey rookie of the week. Zannella evened the scoring 1-1 early in the second period and then struck again midway through the third for the 3-2 final. He is the third Buffalo State player to earn the rookie honor this season.
MEN'S BASKETBALL - Brockport
Kyheem Green, junior forward
Junior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) scored a season-high 20 points during The College at Brockport's 59-58 win over Geneseo last Tuesday night. Green, who also grabbed 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, scored six points during Brockport's 11-0 opening run and finished with 14 first-half points. Green has reached double-figures in scoring during all seven games, and he leads Brockport in scoring (108 points), scoring average (15.4 ppg.), rebounds (65), rebounds per game (9.3), steals (15), and blocks (14).

Oneonta's Erika Puffer (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) came off the bench last week and led the Red Dragons in scoring as they won three more games to keep its record a perfect 7-0. She scored a team high 16 points in a win against Hamilton College, who had entered the contest undefeated. She followed up with a near double-double as she posted 10 points and nine boards in the 66-60 win over Utica. Puffer finished the week averaging 10.7 points and 7.7 rebounds along with five assists and four steals as she shot better than 50 percent from the field and 74 percent from the charity stripe over the three games.

Freshman Matt Distler (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) won three individual events in Cortland's 141-133 dual-meet victory over visiting Oneonta on Dec. 10. He won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:30.51), the 50-yard freestyle (22.23) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.73). He also swam the anchor leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that turned in the night's fastest time of 3:16.23.

Morgan Reisch, a senior from Fairport, N.Y., won two events and scored points in three different strokes Dec. 10 at home vs. Division II Gannon. Reisch hit the timing pad in 2:01.70 to win the 200-yard freestyle, and in 2:16.29 to win the 200-yard butterfly. She was also third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.84).

Morgan Reisch, a senior from Fairport, N.Y., won two events and scored points in three different strokes Dec. 10 at home vs. Division II Gannon. Reisch hit the timing pad in 2:01.70 to win the 200-yard freestyle, and in 2:16.29 to win the 200-yard butterfly. She was also third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.84).
MEN'S DIVING - Fredonia
Ryan Fuller, sophomore
Fredonia's Ryan Fuller (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) was a double-winner this past weekend as the Blue Devils hosted Division II Gannon. Fuller led a trio of Fredonia divers to a 1-2-3 finish in both events as he scored 228.25 points in the 1-meter board competition and 219.25 on the 3-meter.

Lauryn Kaznowski (Kingston, NY/Kingston) won two individual events as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Oneonta, 152-131, in a dual meet. With the victory, Cortland improved its dual record to 3-2 on the season. Kaznowski won both diving events as she scored 221.40 points on the one-meter board and 222.35 points on the three-meter board.

Lauryn Kaznowski (Kingston, NY/Kingston) won two individual events as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Oneonta, 152-131, in a dual meet. With the victory, Cortland improved its dual record to 3-2 on the season. Kaznowski won both diving events as she scored 221.40 points on the one-meter board and 222.35 points on the three-meter board.

Zac Farnaham-Haskell, junior
Junior Zac Farnham-Haskell (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) won the 400 meters with an ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying time of 50.29 seconds at the St. Lawrence Holiday Relays. He also was part of the 4x200-meter relay team that won with an ECAC time of 1:32.53. He helped Cortland finish first out of six schools in the final team standings with 134 points.

Nwana Okafor, junior
Nwana Okafor (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) was named the SUNYAC men's indoor field athlete after posting a first place ECAC-qualifying performance at the RIT Early Season opener. Okafor won the long jump in an ECAC distance of 6.85 meters and finished third in the triple jump in 12.20 meters.

Sarah Timmons (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) helped the Oneonta women's track and field team finish second in the Holiday Relay Meet hosted by St. Lawrence University. She was the top competitor for the Red Dragons winning both the weight throw and the shot put. In the weight, she defeated the field by over three meters and set a new personal and school record with a toss of 15.42 meters. Timmons threw the shot put a distance of 11.26 meters to clinch first.
The next athlete of the week selection will be made following the new year.
